POLYETHYLENE

Polyethylene, discovered by Hans Von Pechmann in 1898 and industrialized in 1939, has become a key material in the plastics industry due to its versatility and strength. Valued for its ease of handling, resistance to chemicals, UV radiation, and impact, it is widely used across various applications. At Ghrbal International, we provide our clients with a comprehensive range of polyethylene materials, including MLLDPE, HDPE, MDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, EVA, EAB, and EVOH, offering reliable and effective solutions tailored to their specific needs.

MLLDPE

Metallocene Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (mLLDPE) is a specialized form of LLDPE produced using metallocene catalysts. This advanced production process creates a polymer with superior performance characteristics, making it highly sought after for numerous applications across various industries.

MLLDPE Applications

Films

Stretch, shrink, agricultural and industrial films.

Toys

Soft toys (balls, figurines) and injection-moulded toys

Household container

Bottles, cans and storage boxes

HDPE

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a petroleum-based thermoplastic polymer renowned for its versatility. It finds extensive use in various applications such as plastic bottles, milk jugs, shampoo containers, bleach bottles, cutting boards, and piping. HDPE is particularly valued for its outstanding tensile strength and high strength-to-density ratio, offering excellent impact resistance and a high melting point, making it a reliable choice for durable products.

HDPE Applications

Hoses, caps

Hoses (irrigation systems, drinking water pipes, ect) and caps (for water bottles, chemical cans and food containers).

Cosmetic bottles

Shampoo and lotion bottles and cream and gel bottles.

Packaging

Bottles and flasks, rigid containers (cans and drums for storing chemicals, oils and other liquids), bags and packaging film (plastic bags, stretch film and food bags).

Films

Tarpaulins, damp-proof construction film, packaging film for industrial and consumer products

Toys

Outdoor toys (slides, swings) and children’s toys.

MDPE

Medium density polyethylene, commonly known as MDPE, is a type of polyethylene with a density of between 0.926 and 0.940 g/cm3. It is less dense than HDPE, which is the most common type of plastic, and is sometimes known as “black alkathene”.

MDPE Applications

Films

Recovery film, fumigation film,

Construction

Hoses, etc

Packaging

Plastic bags, shopping bags, etc

LDPE

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is a flexible, odourless, transparent and 100% recyclable thermoplastic polymer used in products such as grocery/garbage bags, fruit juice containers and stretch film. Its flexibility, toughness and corrosion resistance, combined with a low-cost and highly efficient production process, make it an attractive choice for technical applications, fuelling demand for the production of millions of tonnes of LDPE every year.

LDPE Applications

Toys

Soft toys (inflatables, bath toys and others) and educational toys (puzzles, lightweight building blocks, etc).

Flasks

Cosmetics and food (bottles for sauces and condiments)

Geomembranes

Agricultural applications (irrigation tanks, storage basins) and landfill liners to prevent soil and groundwater contamination

Packaging

Sacks and bags, food packaging, coatings.

Films

Agricultural, industrial and packaging films.

LLDPE

Linear low density polyethylene is also one of the most commonly used packaging films in the packaging industry. The reduction in density is due to the use of comonomers that add side groups to the main chain, which act like branches by reducing crystallinity. LLDPE is also a soft, flexible material with a hazy appearance. At the same density and thickness, LLDPE has higher impact strength, tensile strength, puncture resistance and elongation than LDPE.

LLDPE Applications

Films

Agricultural films (tarpaulins, greenhouses), industrial films and food films.

Packaging

Bags and pouches, food packaging and stretch and shrink film.

Equipments

Toys, cutlery, cable covers, etc

EVA

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) is a copolymer resin used for its light weight and excellent foaming properties. This material is used in footwear, sports and leisure applications. The material is also used as a sealing solution in packaging because of its flexibility and resistance to low temperatures.

EVA Applications

Equipment -Leisure

Footwear components, shoe soles, toys, sports equipment, etc.

Construction

Flexible hoses, ….

Packaging, Film

Flexible packaging, films, …

Automotive

Moulded automotive parts, bumpers, etc

EAB

Ethylene-Butyl Acrylate (EBA) copolymers are produced by reacting ethylene with butyl acrylate. These copolymers combine high load acceptance, excellent toughness, thermal stability, flexibility and adhesion over a range of temperatures.

EAB Applications

Construction

It is used in the manufacture of pipes and tubes, in wire and cable compounds and in hot-melt adhesive formulations. In addition, they can be used to manufacture tough, flexible injection-moulded and extruded articles.

Film

Packaging, adhesive, industrial, agricultural and textile films

EVOH

Ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) is a formal copolymer of ethylene and vinyl alcohol. The copolymer is obtained by polymerising ethylene and vinyl acetate. EVOHs with a high ethylene content have lower extrusion temperatures. EVOH is commonly used as an oxygen barrier in food packaging.

EVOH Applications

Food packaging

Due to its high oxygen and gas barrier properties, food packaging manufacturers use EVOH in their packaging structures to extend the shelf life of food products.

Medical

EVOH is used in a liquid embolic system in interventional radiology, for example in Onyx. Dissolved in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and mixed with a radiopaque substance, the ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer is used to embolise blood vessels.
